Therapy Techniques

Therapy Techniques I use include:

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

This is a form of psychotherapy found scientifically to be very effective in the treatment of depression, anxiety, trauma, low self- esteem, stress, anger as well as many other problems. This therapy focuses on cognitions (your thoughts) and on behaviour (your actions). Once you change the way you think or behave, you will change the way you feel and break the cycle of self- perpetuated pain, anxiety or discomfort. Through our assessment together we work out what are the problems in your life now and set goals to work though these issues.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR is an innovative clinical treatment originated and developed by Dr Francine Shapiro in 1987. EMDR is effective in treating individuals who have experienced psychological difficulties arising from traumatic experiences, such as assault, road traffic accidents, war trauma, torture, natural or man-made disasters, sexual abuse and childhood neglect. EMDR is also increasingly used to treat complaints which are not necessarily trauma-related, such as panic disorder, phobias, performance anxiety, self-esteem issues and other anxiety-related disorders.
